Making MARKS

Grab something Sharp

I like using tools that potters use, to make most of my MARKS. Scratching into the warm beeswax, not wanting to wait until it completely cools... there is a difference.

EXCAVATION

Mark Making is Fun and Surprising

There are numerous ways to MAKE MARKES into the Encaustic Hot Wax paintings you are creating. Metal, plastic, rubber... You are only limited by your Imagination. While the wax is still warm you can mark it easily, and it tends to shift rather than CUT AWAY portions you focus on. This leaves higher ridges where you make your mark. While when the wax is cold it cuts away more than "Moves" and doesn't leave as much of a ridge. I find when I want to use a Rubber Stamp (I have an extensive collection from my stamping days :) the wax needs to be warm, so when I press into the wax it shifts easily. Experiment with different tools at hand and you will enjoy the results, or note "Do Not Do That Again!"
